RADHA. TheVoice, Season 15 dynamo on Adam Levine's team whose performances are filled with breathtaking high notes and her life filled with a generous heart.
Talent, style, beauty and brains are a few of the many adjectives to describe RADHA, a 20 year old singer and songwriter who is currently starring in The Voice Season 15 on Adam Levine’s team. She was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, a municipality in Hudson County known as Mile Square City and once home to the talented Frank Sinatra. Although born in Hoboken, RADHA was raised in Jersey City. Being raised in Jersey city is a major part of her grand success as an artist.
“Jersey City is where a majority of my performances have taken place,” said RADHA. “I love how active and artistic my city is. It provides support and exposure for upcoming artists.”
She began her path as an artist at the age of three. Karaoke played a major role in RADHA’S childhood as her mother would teach her how to read and sing at the same time.
“I started out strong, singing to classic powerhouse songs by Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, and Beyonce,” expressed RADHA. “All of them are big inspirations for me.”
After learning how to read and sing through her mother’s guidance and karaoke, RADHA realized that she was capable of stepping out of her comfort zone and singing her heart out to the public.
“The day I first performed in front of my grammar school during a talent show, the audience’s roar sparked my passion for singing,” she said. “Right then and there, I realized that I have what it takes to take on a bigger platform.”
Years later, RADHA discovered her sound, which is based in Pop, incorporating R&B, Soul, Electronic Hip Hop, and Dance.
“It took me a while to put my finger on it, but I realized that was my sound when I started feeling the ‘different colors’ and levels of my voice,” she said. “ When I started writing music at 16 going on 17, I found that I always leaned towards artists with R&B vibes like Alicia Keys and Rihanna, along with soulful power like Beyonce.”
RADHA feels that her tone is her secret weapon because it allows her to obtain a smooth flow, along with the liberty she takes with her vocal capabilities. When it comes to writing her own music, RADHA places herself in other people’s shoes and enjoys utilizing word play to create stories through her song writing.
“Although I am still young, I won’t claim that I’ve gone through many ‘painful experiences’ that have shook me to the core,” she said.
As a 20 year old artist, RADHA stated that it is tough being a young breakthrough artist. She mentioned that her greatest challenge as a young artist is herself, because she feels that she overworks herself and forgets to make time to relax.
“A lot goes through my mind on a daily basis and so I have to ‘release’,” she said. “I ease my mind and relax by meditating, praying, and especially journaling. Along the way, my family and supporters are always there for me, the way I’m there for them. I want to make them proud.
RADHA has taken her talent to a variety of local events such as Jersey City Pride in 2017, and Hackensack Hospital’s ‘Life and Liberty’ event for cancer research which was held at the Metlife Stadium in 2018. These two events happen to be a few of the many favorites she’s performed at.
“I’ve been performing for cancer patients since I was 13 years old,” said RADHA. “It is always an honor.”
While paying it forward on the stage and singing at city wide events, she is also attending Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. She has decided to pursue Television and Digital Media.
“I decided this was my major because I feel that communication and media in this generation is power,” she expressed. “It is what drives opinion, creates an audience, and relays current events to a nation.”
RADHA also stated that she always wanted to be part of the television and media world because she always loved the lights and cameras. With that being said, she took a semester off from school and went on a quest trying out for The Voice, as she’s always been a fan of the show.
“I knew and said to myself, ‘RADHA, one day, when the time is right, you will be on that show’, “ she expressed. “I always saw The Voice as a huge opportunity for me to share my gift.”
During her blind audition, she mentioned she felt electric on the stage and was ready to put on a great show when she sang Jessie J’s song, ‘Mamma Knows Best’. A couple of seconds later after she started singing, Levine turned his chair around for RADHA.
“I’m still giving it all I got and the next thing I know is that Adam blocked Jennifer Hudson,” she said in regards to her experience on the blinds. “I was speechless. Adam Levine proved that he would be the right coach for me.”
RADHA has advanced to the live performances on The Voice after singing the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There” for a knockout round against Reagan Strange who sang “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn. Although Strange won that knockout battle, RADHA was saved by Levine.
“The Voice will forever be a huge part of my music journey,” said RADHA. “I’ve created friendships with so many beautiful people.”
She also stated, “The Voice has given me a glimpse of the music industry in terms of professionalism, connections, competition, and real advice and support from very talented, established, and experienced individuals. I am taking in the full experience!”
